A treatment programme is complete only when it is clear in advance what is assessed, how it is applied and which measurements will be used to verify performance.

What we assess technically

  • Origin and variation of flow, particle load and dissolved components
  • pH, alkalinity, charge and response to coagulant or flocculant
  • Mixing energy, dosing sequence, residence time and sensitivity to floc break-up
  • Downstream step such as settling, flotation, filtration or sludge dewatering

What we monitor during operation

  • Turbidity, suspended solids and a relevant organic or chemical load measure
  • Settling rate, floc strength, filtrate quality or flotation behaviour
  • Sludge dry-solids content and dewatering stability
  • Chemical consumption per treated quantity and total sludge production

Technical choices require system context

These answers provide initial direction. The final approach follows from the installation data and product documentation.

Why does product selection often start with a jar test?

A test series shows how water from the actual installation responds to product type, dose, pH and mixing. Variation between samples must also be tested.

What is the difference between a coagulant and a flocculant?

A coagulant destabilises fine or colloidal particles. A flocculant then helps form larger flocs that are easier to separate. Not every process requires both in the same form.

Why does a laboratory dose not always work directly in the plant?

Mixing energy, dosing point, residence time, dilution, process variation and floc shear differ at plant scale. Plant validation is therefore part of the selection process.
